Buffalo’s first ‘zero waste’ shop now open in the Elmwood Village

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Plastic bags have been banned in New York State for over a year, but whether you’re ordering online or going to the store it can be hard to avoid plastic.

“Products that people use everyday and don’t even think about it, all of that’s getting thrown out, none of it’s getting recycled,” said Michael Mahoney of Buffalo.

Mahoney is the co-owner of a new shop in the Elmwood Village with home goods and personal care products that can help reduce your waste.

“Zero waste is the goal,” said Tracey Wei, Co-owner.

Less is more: ‘Shrinkflation’ hits grocery stores as companies reduce product sizes amid rising costs

Americans are getting less for what they pay for at the grocery store as companies are shrinking their packaging to save money amid rising costs.

Cereal, orange juice, ice cream and candy have all gotten ounces smaller yet still cost the same while home goods like paper towels and trash bags are seeing less product per box.

Former shelf stocker turned coffee owner sees his own product in Harrisburg stores

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A dream has come true for the owner of Good Brotha’s Book Cafe in Harrisburg.

Owner Stefan Hawkins’ Fifth Acres Coffee is now available in Karns stores featuring medium to dark roast beans. The fair trade sourced coffee comes from South American and African countries. Hawkins once stocked shelves at Karns for another company, not anymore.
